Commanders Coach Accepts Blame for Keeping Jayden Daniels in Contest Prior to Serious Injury

Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn has admitted he shares a portion of the fault for a serious injury to the team’s signal-caller, Daniels.

Details of the Injury and Context

Jayden Daniels, who had among the best first-year performances of all time last season, sustained a dislocated elbow joint in Sunday’s loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Even though Daniels passes with his right arm, the issue has left his season in doubt. The injury was serious enough that the TV coverage did not show repeats and multiple players turned away as Daniels was treated by medical staff.

Backlash and Coach’s Response

Coach Quinn came under criticism as numerous believed the rookie should not have been on the playing surface to begin with. The incident occurred in the final period with the Commanders behind 38-7, making a comeback unlikely. It is common in these situations for clubs to insert their backup quarterback to avoid injuries to their first-string player.

“I get that. I’ve been reflecting about it nonstop, too, and, wow, I erred,” he remarked of his decision to keep Jayden in the match. “This is 100% on me.”

Fallout and Team Prospects

Mariota will be the Commanders’ starting quarterback from now on, but he will lead a roster in disarray. After reaching the NFC championship game the prior year thanks to the rookie’s excellence, the franchise have struggled this season. They also lost defensive back Marshon Lattimore (torn ACL) and pass-catcher McCaffrey (broken collarbone) on Sunday, and have a number of other key players on the injury list. The Commanders are three wins and six losses so far, and it would require a huge reversal for the club to reach the postseason.
